Sofia is the capital of the Republic of Bulgaria and Bulgaria's largest city and its main commercial, manufacturing, transportation, and cultural centre. The city has less than 1% of the national territory, but it is the home of about 1/7 of the Bulgarian population and of 1/6 of its labour force. It has a higher per capita income than the rest of the country, and contributes of 27% of national gross domestic product (GDP). |
