The Interdisciplinary Department of Urban Landscapes is responsible for drawing up and organising interdisciplinary research in the field of urban ecology and development. This partner is perfectly suited to take over the role as project co-ordinator, since the department owns competence in conception, co-ordination and guidance of large applied interdisciplinary research projects on sustainable urban development as well as it owns competence and experience in co-operating with cities in research tasks as e. g. sustainable urban development. In addition, this partner leads the processing of work package (WP) 11 (Comparison).

The Dresden-based Institut für ökologische Raumentwicklung e. V. (IOER - Institute of Ecological and Regional Development) has the task of scientifically addressing basic issues relating to the ecological regeneration of formerly industrialised regions, to national and regional development, and to urban ecology in heavily polluted and densely populated regions as well as of investigating fundamental questions concerning housing. Particular attention is paid in the process to the source conditions, development perspectives, instruments to be deployed and transboundary specifications for an ecologically and economically viable process of renewal. The IOER supports partner 3 in WP 1 (Ecological Criteria), organises the network (WP 10) and is responsible for the conduction of WP 12 (Manual).

This partner carries out fundamental and applied research in the following fields: urban and regional economics; transport economics; environmental economics; and geographical information systems (GIS). The department is involved in a large number of externally funded contract research projects and has the disposal of two specialised research centres: a GIS-laboratory and MASTER-point, the latter specialised in Meta-analytical research. Furthermore, the department operates in close co-operation with the Economic and Social Institute of the Vrije Universiteit. Among the contractors are various governmental institutions (European Commission, Dutch Ministries, and regional and local authorities), financial institutes (World Bank, ING-bank) and transport organisations (Dutch National Railway Company). The department is well established and recognised in the scientific community; the quality of the methodological approaches is proven by the numerous publications in high quality international scientific journals and presentation at well-established international congresses by members of the department. The Deparment is responsible for WP 2 (Economic Criteria), thus investigates benefit-cost aspects, fiscal framework and financing issues of urban green projects.

The Region of Liguria acts as representative for the City of Genoa, covering the Mediterranean aspects of the research project. Due to its geographical location (between mountain ranges and the shore), Genoa traditionally has been limited in its growth and therefore has to meet special demands in relation with green space policies. Partner 12 Municipality of the City of Leipzig (LCC)
http://www.leipzig.de The Central European City of Leipzig, located in the former GDR, contributes particular aspects of urban green politics to the research project. The city is still in a transformation process, due to the on-going adaptation to the Western states of Germany, that also influences local green space policies. This partner is responsible for WP 9 (Case Study Leipzig). Subcontract LCC-Akzente: The city of Leipzig has selected the planning company "Akzente" (Architecture and Landscape Planning GdR) for the support in the vegetation analysis in the two study areas. This sub-contractor contributes to WP 9.
